PaL has expertise in the field of learning through play and supports organisations that work in townships and vineyards in the Cape Town area in South Africa.
Since 2015 PaL has undertaken projects with young children. Children who grow up in townships get few chances. School starts at the age of 6. Creativity and learning from experiments and trying to find solutions improves the future for these children. Language plays a crucial role in all this: language and the ability to communicate are essential for a successful life.
The leaders of day care and after school care groups would welcome greater expertise: what is the best way of stimulating these children. How can we encourage them to speak and to make better use of language? How can we encourage them to use brain, heart and hands and make better use of them? How can we encourage them to speak and to make better use of language? How can we encourage them to use brain, heart and hands and make better use of them? Grown-ups support and stimulate children, they initiate activities. That way children’s language use develops as does imagination, inventiveness and dexterity. We respond to the needs of South African organisations.

Since 2020 we have had a cooperation agreement with Amazing Brainz, an organisation that provides training and support for the many daytime crèches and after school care centres in the Cape Town area.
PaL foundation trains grown-ups to make use of the available means: pencils and paint for drawing and painting, sand for building, stones to build paths. Other items can be the basis of collections. One can play games with bottle tops. There is no need for expensive toys: daily experiences and nature offer sufficient opportunities to learn and develop.
